ROTARY CLUB OF URBANA
Board of Directors Meeting
September 19 , 2006
The Board of Directors of the Rotary Club of Urbana met in a Special Meeting at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at the Urbana Country Club. Those present were: President Michael Murphy, President Elect Deborah Rugg, Secretary Kermit Harden, Treasurer Thomas Brown, Directors Gerri Kirchner, Deborah Day and Roscoe Pershing. Donald Mason also attended. Those absent were: Vice-President Tom Conry, Directors John Muirhead, Loren Bode and Michael McCuskey.
PURPOSE OF THE MEETING:
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the recommendation of the World
Service Committee concerning the Malawi Water Well Project. The Project
has
been submitted for approval to Rotary International but its approval has
not
been received at this time. Don Mason, Chair of the Committee was planning
on traveling to Malawi in early October along with Ray Elliott, another member
of
the Committee where they would meet with Rotarians in Blantyre to make plans
for the digging of the wells. Mason is now not able to go but the Committee
considers making a direct connection between the collaborating clubs would
be very worthwhile at
this time. Ray Elliott is able to make the trip if funds can be provided..An
estimate for the cost of the travel for the trip is $2,000. Other expenses
will be covered by Rotary Clubs in Malawi. The Urbana Presbyterian
Church has already pledged $750 for the trip.
After some discussion, it was moved by Deborah Day and seconded by Deborah
Rugg
that recognizing the Urbana Presbyterian Church has pledged $750, the Urbana
Rotary
Club authorize an expenditure of up to $1250 from the club’s carryover
funds for
Elliott’s travel expenses with the goal of insuring the success of
this project. The
motion carried by a vote of 6 to 1.
ADJOURNMENT:
The Special Meeting adjourned at 1:40 PM.
Respectfully submitted:
