ROTARY CLUB OF URBANA
Board of Directors Meeting
December 5, 2006
     

                 
The Board of Directors of the Rotary Club of Urbana met at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, December 5, 2006 in the meeting room at the Urbana Country Club. Those present were: President Michael Murphy, President Elect Deborah Rugg, Vice-President Tom Conry, Secretary Kermit Harden, Treasurer Thomas Brown, Directors Loren Bode, Gerri Kirchner, Deborah Day, Roscoe Pershing and John Muirhead. PDG Chris Scherer also attended the meeting. Those absent were Past President Joe Rank and Director Michael McCuskey.

                 
MINUTES:
               
It was moved by Deborah Rugg and seconded by Roscoe Pershing that the minutes of the meeting held on November 7, 2006 be approved as amended. Motion carried.

                 
PRESIDENT'S REPORT:
           
President Murphy announced that club members had contributed $6,372 to the Rotary Foundation so far this year. This amounts to $59 per member. Our goal for the Rotary Year is $100 per member.
 

                 
PRESIDENT ELECT REPORT:
       
President Elect Rugg announced that the Champaign Club continues to make plans to celebrate its 90th Anniversary in February and had assumed a project to up-date all the signs leading into the cities announcing the times and places that the various Rotary Clubs meet. She stated she will be the contact person in our club to assist the C-U Illini After 5 Club in collecting shoes to donate to various community organizations who are helping the needy. She will present this request to the club at its next meeting. The "Read Across America Project" will be held on March 12, 2007 and the Literacy Committee will be asking for volunteers to assist with this in the near future.
 

                 
VICE-PRESIDENT'S REPORT:
       
Vice-President Conry announced the Urbana Country Club will be closed for the first three weeks in January which will necessitate our making other arrangements for our meetings. There will be no meeting on January 2. On January 9 the meeting will be held at the University of Illinois Alumni Center. This meeting will be catered by Hendrick House and the program will be a tour of the facility. On January 16, the meeting will be held at the Urbana Civic Center. We will return to the Urbana Country Club for the meeting on January 23.

                 
SECRETARY'S REPORT:
         

Secretary Harden reported the membership remains at 108 with two possible new members in the process of being proposed.


   
TREASURER'S REPORT:
           
Treasurer Brown presented the monthly fmancial reports. He reported the club is still receiving memorial gifts in memory of Fay Sims and Nancy Quisenberry. The Wilcox Shoe Fund is working on a proposal where eye glasses may be purchased for students in the Urbana Schools when recommended by the School Social Workers.
 

               
DIRECTOR'S REPORTS:
           
Director Roscoe Pershing announced the Membership Committee is working on a suggested list of possible new members with the hope of increasing the club membership before the end of the Rotary Year. Director Loren Bode stated the Music Committee is working on a replacement for the present song books. It is possible that the music can be projected on the screen if a machine can be found.

               
Director Gem Kirchner reported the Ways and Means Committee had received eleven Small Grant Proposals and had selected the following four to be funded at $450 each: Crisis Nursery, The Woman's Fund, Link to Reading (Dyslexia) and The Don Moyers Boys and Girls Club. It was moved by Tom Brown and seconded by Deborah Rugg that these four proposals be funded. Motion carried. Director Deborah Day announced the plans for the program commemorating Martin Luther King Jr. Day on January 15, 2007 were in the final stages.
 

               
Director John Muirhead reported there is an ongoing investigation on the viability of showing advertisements in the area movie houses which would promote ideals of Rotary.
